Tell us about what you have been reading. These a few of the books I’ve been reading lately. You can borrow them too from the Learning Commons!

RAVEN BOYS by Maggie Stiefvater (The Raven Cycle #1)This is an intriguing introduction to the world of Blue Sargent. While she doesn’t have the clairvoyant ability of her family to read the future, she does possess the ability to make the energy stronger.  She becomes enmeshed in the lives of the local Aglionby boys, with strange and tragic stories of their own.

SPARK (Spark #1 ) by Rachel Craw How would you react if  you knew your DNA had been altered? This is the experience for  Evie, who is one day an ordinary seventeen year old, grieving for her mother. The next, she’s a Shield, the result of a decades-old experiment gone wrong, bound by DNA to defend her best friend from an unknown killer.”(publisher’s blurb”). Check out Rachel Craw’s trilogy Spark, Stray & her new release Shield.

JUMP (Twinmaker #1) by Sean Williams is a really intriguing look into the future of technologies and the fabrication and enhancement of goods and the changing impact of this society on our identiies.

ILLUMINAE (Illuminae #1) This is a great read if you enjoyed the 100 by Kass Morgan. Think artificial intelligence, intergalactic consipiracy and warfare. Be prepared to read official reports, transcripts, secret code, leaked memos and forbidden communications between crew members as our characters battle their way to safety.

The long awaited conclusion to the divergent series, Allegiant is now available to borrow from the library…

Every question that can be answered must be answered or at least engaged. Illogical thought processes must be challenged when they arise. Wrong answers must be corrected. Correct answers must be affirmed. – From the Erudite faction manifesto.

The faction-based society that Tris Prior once believed in is shattered—fractured by violence and power struggles and scarred by loss and betrayal. So when offered a chance to explore the world past the limits she’s known, Tris is ready. Perhaps beyond the fence, she and Tobias will find a simple new life together, free from complicated lies, tangled loyalties, and painful memories.

But Tris’s new reality is even more alarming than the one she left behind. Old discoveries are quickly rendered meaningless. Explosive new truths change the hearts of those she loves. And once again, Tris must battle to comprehend the complexities of human nature—and of herself—while facing impossible choices about courage, allegiance, sacrifice, and love.

MORE THAN THIS by Patrick Ness

Posted on

From two-time Carnegie Medal winner Patrick Ness comes an enthralling and provocative new novel chronicling the life — or perhaps afterlife — of a teen trapped in a crumbling, abandoned world.

More than this is about a boy named Seth who drowns, and whilst desperate and alone in his final moments, he loses his life as the pounding sea claims him. But then he wakes. He is naked, thirsty, starving. But alive. How is that possible? He remembers dying, his bones breaking, his skull dashed upon the rocks. So how is he here? And where is this place? It looks like the suburban English town where he lived as a child, before an unthinkable tragedy happened and his family moved to America. But the neighborhood around his old house is overgrown, covered in dust, and completely abandoned. What’s going on? And why is it that whenever he closes his eyes, he falls prey to vivid, agonizing memories that seem more real than the world around him? Seth begins a search for answers, hoping that he might not be alone, that this might not be the hell he fears it to be, that there might be more than just this. . .

Patrick Ness is best known for his books for young adults, including the Chaos Walking trilogy and A Monster Calls.

Patrick Ness is one of my favourite authors, he’s books are so well written they will linger in your mind weeks after you read them. I’m sure this one will too.!  Borrow your copy today!

It’s a brave new world. ‘My name is Kyle Straker. And I don’t exist anymore.’ So begins the story of Kyle Straker, recorded on to old audio tapes. You might think these tapes are a hoax. But perhaps they contain the history of a past world…If what the tapes say are true, it means that everything we think we know is a lie. And if everything we know is a lie does that mean that we are, too?
